This book is full of lots of ideas to help someone with ADHD thrive in school and the world. The ideas are basic but very practical. The author briefly describes the different types of ADHD but does not differentiate which tools may be more helpful for the different types. The section on school is full of tips on how to organize and think through where common problems are and what one can change. The last section has Q and A of different scenarios and what one can do in those situations. As a marriage family therapist I look forward to using this book in helping clients with ADHD, especially in school.
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and asked for my honest opinion. I was under no obligation to write a review.

Like anything; this needs to be used to be helpful. This workbook provides a straightforward and encouraging approach to help teens make the transition to independence in adulthood. This is a key factor with management of any chronic condition, and unfortunately many families aren't paying enough attention to teaching teens how to learn to manage and thrive with what we know to be a life long condition.
That said, only a motivated parent and teen would make good use of this book. Otherwise it could just be one more thing for them to battle over.

First let me say that I was sent this book by the publisher with the expectation that I would give an honest review of its content. I have 2 sons who have been diagnosed with ADHD and have taken medication for years. My oldest son is now 21 and no longer takes medication, choosing to try other means to control his attention deficit in his job. My younger son is 19 and chose to stop medication when he graduated high school. He is now in classes to become an EMT and has used this workbook to develop new tools to focus and control his behavior in class and at work. This book has helped him learn what areas are triggers for his ADHD to become a bigger factor in his learning, how to address those triggers and create a plan to put into motion to allow him to live a productive life in school and on the job without medication. The only downfall to the book is that it is a great deal of reading and with a child who has ADHD, that can e a stumbling block for them.

Thanks Callisto publisher's club for providing a copy for review!

This book is just what I needed for my 9th grader. A lot of the ADHD books I've found target younger kids, so having a chapter titled "Sometimes you're a little bit extra" let me know we have something just right! Lots of great real-life scenarios my son could relate to.

My only critique is that the chapters can be visually subdued. There are full page colorful cartoon-like drawings at the start of each chapter but after that it's text-heavy with the occasional black and white drawing. Great for preventing distractions but a bit of a tough sell for teenagers all about the visual stimulation of electronic media.

Overall a good book to dialogue with my teen without preaching.
