Written by a pediatrician and based in proven-effective mindfulness techniques, this book will help you and your child with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) keep calm, flexible, and in control.

If you are a parent of a child with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), you probably face many unique daily challenges. Kids with ADHD are often inattentive, hyperactive, and impulsive, since ADHD affects all of self-management and self-regulation. As a result, you might become chronically frustrated or stressed out, which makes caring for ADHD that much harder. In this book, a developmental pediatrician presents a proven-effective program for helping both you and your child with ADHD stay cool and collected while remaining flexible, resilient, and mindful.

Bertin addresses the various symptoms of ADHD using non-technical language and a user-friendly format. In addition, he offers guidelines to help you assess your child’s strengths and weaknesses, create plans for building skills and managing specific challenges, lower stress levels for both yourself and your child, communicate effectively, and cultivate balance and harmony at home and at school.

If you are a parent, caregiver, or mental health professional, this book provides a valuable guide.

This is a fantastic book. It is easy to read yet gives specific and detailed information. It is a practical workbook for the layperson and professional alike. I learned many things that I had not learned in medical school, especially about recent advances in the understanding of ADD/ADHD as a developmental delay of the brain's organizational and logistical/tactical system. I found this ground-breaking personally (for my affected family members) and for my medical practice. I can better recommend resources to patients.

This book has given me priceless insight and tools to help my son. The exercises are most helpful. The way the book explains ADHD and how to be most supportive for our children is very impressive. The author never makes excuses or enables them which is very important. I am very satisfied and will be recommending this book to other families.

I have an 11-year-old son with severe ADHD and executive function impairments. I have about every ADD/ADHD parenting book out there! Specifically, I have 34 books on the topic. This one is, by far, the BEST ONE I HAVE EVER READ. Some books out there just reiterate what is printed in another book. The beauty of this book is that it does NOT do that. Everything in the book is new and very wise advice and text, The book has worksheets (extremely useful) in the end of each chapter and then an Action Plan after that highlights the main points of that chapter and almost like a 'to do' list. It's extremely organized and provides a mindfulness exercise at the end of each chapter as well.

I homeschool my son due to his ADHD and co-occurring learning differences. This book offered wonderful advice on how to help with your child's organization techniques, homework plans, and other academic advice that was extremely helpful in teaching him.

The most wonderful part of this book is that it switches from how to teach your child this.,,, to how to become a more mindful, and better parent and all around a more rounded person.

It's a very smooth, well-written, comprehensive text that should be a 'must have' on every parent with a child who has ADHD.

I'm only about half way through this book, and I'm going to go ahead and give it five stars. We're in the process of diagnosis for our three year old, and this book was my introduction to adhd and even mindfulness in general. Even if I find no useful management through this book the information contained within has been invaluable. My husband, mother and now daughter all live with this debilitating condition and it's been so helpful just to have well written information explaining what is going through their minds and the cognitive skills that are delayed.

This is the first Mindfulness book related specifically to ADHD I have ever seen. I work with children having dyslexia and ADHD and this book has been a miracle. It's concise, easy to understand and includes research, and I can suggest to parents when they are struggling! I also teach Mindfulness to my first graders and I can tell you for a fact that Mindfulness absolutely creates calm, better focus and self-regulation and compassion. Websites are also included as a resource. Thank you!

What I like about this book is that it gives practical and pragmatic advice for addressing a lot of the recurrent challenges of parenting a child whose symptoms prevent her from reaching her potential, even though she is obviously bright, capable, insightful and enthusiastic. If you need strategies to help a child who puts great effort into avoiding things that require a type of effort she doesn't find enjoyable, or who begins projects with great determination but has real trouble completing anything, this can be very helpful.
